MS III

Now you are ready to start taking advanced courses during your last two years in college as elective courses. It normally includes one elective class or lab each semester, plus a summer leadership camp. You will learn advanced military tactics and gain experience in team organization, planning and decision-making. To benefit from the leadership training in the Advanced Course, all cadets must have completed either the Basic Course or have attended Basic Camp. Entering the Advanced Course requires a commitment to serve as an Officer in the U.S. Army after you graduate.

Advanced Camp

The ROTC Advanced Camp is the most important training event for an Army ROTC cadet. This course is attended during the summer between your Junior and Senior year of college. It takes 4 weeks to complete and is conducted at Fort Knox, KY. This is the only summer event that is required to complete in order to commission as an Army officer.

The 28-day training event incorporates a wide range of subjects designed to develop and evaluate leadership ability. The challenges are rigorous and demanding, both mentally and physically. Advanced Camp tests intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and stamina. These challenges provide a new perspective on an individual's ability to perform exacting tasks and to make difficult decisions in demanding situations.

Advanced Camp places each cadet in a variety of leadership positions, many of which simulate stressful combat situations. In each position, cadets will receive evaluations from platoon Observer Trainer Mentor (OTM) officers and noncommissioned officers. In addition to proving their leadership ability, cadets must meet established standards in physical fitness, weapons training, communication, combat patrols and demonstrate their proficiency in many other military skills. Cadets must excel at Advanced Camp to be considered competitive for a commission as an Army officer.
